City of Burlington, WI - Building permits

Building permits, as well as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and erosion control permits, may be required for any construction, addition or alteration of any structure, including but not limited to sheds, carports, decks, porches, dormers, roof alterations, new or replacement retaining walls, signs, entrance pillars and gates, stairs and landings, and vegetation removal or grading.  Please contact your local building inspector with any questions or to determine if a building permit is required for your project.

Electrical
Complete this form for any Electrical work. If you have already completed the Building Permit Application, this form is not necessary. The City of Burlington requires all electricians performing work in the City to be licensed by the City. See the Miscellaneous section below for information in obtaining this license.

Fire Protection System
Use this application to apply for installing a fire protection system.

HVAC
Complete this form for any HVAC work. If you have already completed the Building Permit Application, this form is not necessary.

Plumbing

Miscellaneous

Alliant Energy New Service
Use this form when you need a NEW electrical meter only. Check to see if Alliant is your provider for electrical service.

Dumpster in the Right-of-Way
The right-of-way permit for a dumpster, container or similar removable storage container, or construction vehicle is ONLY allowed March 16 – November 14. If emergency circumstances or emergency weather conditions exist, the city MAY approve the placement between November 15 – March 15. Only rubber-tire construction vehicles will be permitted.

Electrical Contractor License
The City of Burlington requires all electricians performing work in the City to be licensed by the City. Complete this application to obtain such license.
